The DAV Zonal Tournament, was held on 29th August 2024 at DAV Public School, Dehradun. This prestigious tournament saw the participation of various DAV schools from across Uttarakhand, all of which had qualified by excelling at the cluster level. The schools that competed included DAV Public School Dehradun, DAV Centenary Public School Haridwar, DAV Kotdwar, DAV Kashipur, DAV Rudrapur, DAV Haldwani, BM DAV, and DAV Bazpur.

 

The DAV Zonal Tournament 2024 coincided with National Sports Day, a celebration in honor of the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. This alignment underscored a day dedicated to sports excellence and the memory of a true sporting icon, merging local enthusiasm with national reverence.

The event began with the hoisting of the DAV Flag followed by the singing of the DAV Anthem. 

On this special occasion, Madam Principal Mrs. Shalini Samadhiya along with the sports teachers from various DAV schools, students and teachers of DAV Dehradun offered floral tributes to Major Dhyan Chand. Vanshita delivered a speech highlighting Dhyan Chand’s immense contributions to Indian sports. 

 

The Sports Captain Ashmit Mungra led the gathering in taking a sportsmanship oath.

 

In her address, Madam Principal emphasized on the importance of giving one's best in every endeavor. She thanked President DAVCMC, Pradhan Ji Dr. Punam Suri Ji under whose guidance and leadership DAV is excelling in every field. She also expressed her gratitude to Director Sir, Dr. V. Singh , ARO Sir Shri P.C Purohit ji, Manager Ma'am Dr. Alpna Sharma and Cordinator Sports Mr. Manoj Kumar Kapil Sir for their unwavering support and steadfast cooperation in ensuring the success of a pivotal event like this.

 

She motivated the participants to carry forward the ethos of DAV, urging them to represent Uttarakhand with full zeal and zest at the National level. Her words were a powerful reminder of the values that DAV schools strive to instill in their students—dedication, integrity, and excellence.

 

Following her address, Madam Principal, officially declared the tournament open, and the games commenced with a wave of excitement. Throughout the day, the various teams competed with vigor, showcasing their talents and teamwork in Kho - Kho, Judo, Karate, Roller Skating , Badminton, Yoga, Kabaddi  and Chess. 

The tournament was not only a platform for athletic competition but also a celebration of the camaraderie and spirit that defines DAV schools. The event concluded on a high note, with participants and spectators alike looking forward to the upcoming National-level competitions, where the selected students will have the opportunity to make Uttarakhand proud.

 

The Zonal Tournament at DAV Public School, Dehradun, was a resounding success due to the hard work and commitment of the sports faculty - Mrs. Anuradha Rawat, Mr. Punesh Thakur, Mr. Abhishek Negi, Mr. Mukesh Chandra, the staff, the students and the helping hands of DAV Dehradun. A special thanks to the escort teachers from various DAV schools for their unstinting support.
